El Campito was founded in 1970 to aid migrant families coping with the struggles of starting a new life in South Bend. Ignacio and Concepcion Nino offered child care services for working families in their home, and then in the neighborhood.
Today, through the generous support of the community, El Campito has grown out of the Nino's home to become one of South Bend's oldest non-profit child development centers. Through our three programs - our learning center, after school, and Parents as Teachers - we demonstrate our commitment to create a community of our own - an inclusive environment that embraces and celebrates children from all cultures and backgrounds.
El Campito is a licensed, NAEYC accredited bilingual child development center. The HighScope method is used in our classrooms, and the Parents as Teachers curriculum is offered to enrolled families. Services are provided through the generous support of many organizations including the United Way of St. Joseph County, Federal Food Program, Family Connection, and T.E.A.C.H. Scholarships for our staff.

From our Parents
"El Campito is the best daycare ever!! I can really say that I love having my kids there and my kids love it. Laura is the director there and is one of the best at what she does. She is always smiling and you can tell it reflects on her staff. Each and everyone are all excellent.. I couldn't have wished for a better place to send my kids."
"My son has grown so much since coming to El Campito! He loves going every day and loves his friends!"
