About Us
DSC01118.jpg

El Campito was founded in 1970 to aid migrant families in coping with the struggles of starting a new life in South Bend. Ignacio and Concepcion Nino offered child care services for working families in their home, and then in the neighborhood.

Today, through the generous support of the community, El Campito has grown out of the Niño's home to become one of South Bend's oldest non-profit child development centers. We continue to demonstrate our commitment to creating a community of our own - an inclusive environment that embraces and celebrates children from all cultures and backgrounds.

El Campito is the only licensed, NAEYC accredited bilingual child development center in Northern Indiana. The HighScope method is used in our classrooms. Services are provided through the generous support of many organizations including the United Way of St. Joseph County, Federal Food Program, Family Connection, and T.E.A.C.H. Scholarships for our staff.

We use HighScope Curriculum. We are NAEYC accredited. We maintain a Level 4 Paths to Quality for the state of Indiana.
